Backend Developer (m/f/d)

Join our team

ERP software for the construction industry, made in Kiel

Development of our software began in 2014. Today, IDALABS develops end-to-end, highly integrated ERP software that prepares craft and industrial businesses for the future. At IDALABS, we develop comprehensive ERP software for the construction industry. Our customers are manufacturers working with wood, plastics, or metal, and they use IDA to run their entire business. Behind it are complex business processes, large amounts of data, demanding logic, and a system that has grown over many years.

In short: you can expect real challenges and plenty of opportunities to develop your technical skills and industry knowledge. If you enjoy thinking things through and building thoughtful solutions, you will fit right in.

Your role in development

As a backend developer, you actively shape our ERP solutions and drive their technical implementation. You work with our team on site in Kiel on sophisticated software architectures.

We are looking for someone to join our backend development team. Someone who knows their way around PHP, finds intricate dependencies interesting, and wants to take software development with AI to the next level.

What you will work on

  • PHP 8.x: This is our backend world, and you should know it well. We do not use any of the major frameworks; instead, we have developed most of our architecture ourselves. You will work with a system you can truly understand, right down to its foundations.
  • MariaDB: Our database is large and demanding. If you enjoy thinking in data models, you will feel at home here.
  • Architecture & business logic: Our software does a lot. The exciting challenge is to keep developing it, integrate new features, and sustainably improve its architecture.
  • Multi-agent AI development: We already use AI agents extensively in our development work. From analysis and architecture through implementation to testing and reviews, you develop your solutions together with AI. You tackle demanding tasks, write code yourself, and review the results.
  • Quality: Every change goes through peer review, and our CI runs on Jenkins.

Who we are looking for

You have a degree in computer science? Great.

You do not have a degree, but have spent years developing sophisticated software? Just as good.

We care less about what your diploma says and more about what you can do, how you think, and whether you want to keep growing.

What matters to us:

  • You have strong experience with PHP and relational databases.
  • You understand individual functions as well as the bigger picture of a software system.
  • You enjoy getting to know existing systems and developing them sustainably.
  • You work independently, think ahead, and contribute your own ideas.
  • You are excited about AI-assisted, ideally agentic software development. Some initial experience is great; real curiosity is essential.
  • You can communicate with other people. It sounds obvious, but it is not always a given. ;-)

What you can expect from us

A company founded in 2017 that is far from finished developing its software.

A backend development team that works hand in hand with our other development teams. Colleagues who support each other, discuss ideas, and find solutions together. Short decision paths, direct communication, and the opportunity to make a real difference.

We are based in Kiel and prefer working together at the office. We have heard of working from home, but we believe good collaboration thrives on direct exchange.

In return, you get flexible working hours, proper equipment, opportunities for further training, a fitness offering, and colleagues you can share a laugh with.

We take our work seriously. Ourselves? Not always.
